We wish Brenton Finklea, MD, our most recent fellow in the Center for Academic Global Ophthalmology for the 2017- 2018 academic year, all the best as he transitions to Duke for a Cornea and Anterior Segment Fellowship in the 2018-2019 year. We wish him the best. Brent was a graduate of the Wills Eye Hospital residency program and has already spent time working with our department on many projects. A native of Florida, Brent received an undergraduate degree in Engineering from the University of Florida before undertaking medical school at the University of Virginia.
Over the past 12 months, Brent worked on collaborations between Wills and our Partners around the globe. On his first departure from the USA, he spent time at the LV Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad, India and the Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai, India. At these renowned institutions, Indian and foreign residents and fellows receive top-notch clinical and surgical training while delivering quality eye care to all regardless of their ability to pay. He also taught comprehensive ophthalmology to and performed hundreds of surgeries with our partners in Rwanda, Haiti, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, and Nepal.
