The Wills Eye Center for Academic Global Ophthalmology sponsors educational opportunities for highly motivated and talented eye doctors and other eye care team members to save sight across the globe.

  • Wills Eye Resident Experience (WIRE). A structured introduction into global ophthalmology for Wills Eye third year residents. Learn more.
  • Academic Global Ophthalmology Fellowship. This one-year program is designed to create culturally aware, surgically skilled ophthalmologists equipped to provide expert, appropriate, and sustainable medical and surgical care in low resource settings. Learn more.
  • International Scholars Program. The Wills International Scholars program offers international medical graduates a structured opportunity to observe clinical ophthalmology and eye blindness under the guidance of Wills Eye experts. Only doctors of medicine  are currently accepted for the program (e.g.,MD, MBBS, MB, BMBS or equivalent).   • Lectures & Courses. Each year, the Center for Academic Global Ophthalmology hosts a Visiting Professor who has had profound impacts on eye care in the majority world. We also offer occasional courses relevant to global ophthalmology including MSICS. Learn more.
